Early Modern Recipe Transcribathon

“Dr. Burges his Receipt Against the Plague,” Folger Manuscript V.b.400, p.202
November 5, 2019 - 10:00am to 1:00pm
CESTA (Wallenberg Hall, 4th floor)

Join us at CESTA on Tuesday, November 5, for the Early Modern Recipe Online Collective (EMROC) transcribathon.

To participate, just pop into CESTA (Wallenberg Hall, 4th floor) on November 5 between 10 am and 1 pm and have a go at transcribing early modern recipes. Working with scholars and students from around the world, we will help to create a searchable digital text of an anonymous manuscript receipt book with more than 600 medical recipes for the plague, scurvy, consumption, and more! Refreshments will be provided.

No experience is required! We'll use the transcription platform Dromio - bring your own laptop if possible. If you can't join us at CESTA, you can help transcribe remotely and connect with participants around the globe via Zoom as well as subject hashtags on Twitter (such as #EMROCtranscribes). Other places hosting transcription groups on November 5 include the Folger Shakespeare Library, the University of Essex, North Carolina State University, the University of Akron, the University of North Carolina Charlotte, Penn State Abington, the Newberry Library, and more. Individuals may come and go virtually throughout the day - go here for more info and resources to join the transcribathon remotely.
