In this presentation, Pulitzer prize winning journalist Martha Mendoza takes us through the tech behind the story that tracked fish caught by enslaved men in Southeast Asia to American dinner tables.

AP reporter Martha Mendoza takes you behind the scenes of her four-woman team's investigation from discovering a slave island to tracking boats at sea with high resolutions cameras on satellite. Hear about the tech behind the journalism that resulted in a dozen people jailed, ships worth millions of dollars seized and businesses shut down. There were U.S. Congressional hearings, lawsuits and new legislation signed by the president. Some of the world's largest companies promised reforms. A two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, Martha Mendoza’s reports have prompted Congressional hearings and new legislation, Pentagon investigations and White House responses. She was part of a team whose investigations into slavery in the Thai seafood sector have led to the freedom of more than 2000 men. During her Associated Press career, she’s been based in Mexico City, Bangkok, Silicon Valley, New York and New Mexico. She’s an advocate for accurate journalism, government transparency and the public’s right to know.
