Last week, the summer Research Assistants all wrote reflections on their first impressions of CESTA and the digital humanities. Take a peek at this word cloud that shows the most used words in our reflections - you can see what’s taking up most of our minds!

For many Research Assistants, this was their first glimpse into the world of digital humanities. In their reflections, the RAs touched on a wide variety of topics, from the collaborative nature of digital humanities to the diversity of methodologies. Some explored the ethics of digital humanities research, while others discussed the unique symbiotic nature of humanistic foundations guiding technology and technology aiding humanities-based questions. Many RAs dove right in and highlighted various projects going on in the digital humanities world, such as UCLA’s Mapping Indigenous LA - a spatial project that maps indigenous stories and pinpoints locations of cultural significance - or the Literary Lab’s modeling of how English poetic form has changed throughout history. We are now three weeks into our individual projects, and we certainly have a lot to reflect on!

Stay tuned to hear more about what the RAs have to say!

I’m Huanvy Phan, a rising sophomore majoring in Asian American Studies and Philosophy. I’m working as a Communications Assistant this summer, which involves helping with the day-to-day intercommunications between the RAs and managing this blog. I’m beyond thrilled to be working with CESTA and I’m eager to dive into the world of digital humanities.
