"A World Made by Travel" is out!

Giovanna Ceserani's (CESTA Faculty Director, and Associate Professor of Classics, and by courtesy of, History) second book, A World Made by Travel is published today! It is Stanford University Press's latest digital publication. A World Made by Travel contains a database of thousands of travelers who went on the Grand Tour with many details about them as data, introductory chapters explaining the book's digital approach and the digital project's history, exemplary essays by leading scholars who worked with its data, resources for teachers to bring this wealth of material into the classroom, example student work over the past years, and many more! You can explore the travellers' data and read about all of them here:

The launch of the project was supported, via Mapping the Republic of Letters, by grants from the NEH and the Stanford Presidential Fund for Innovation in the Humanities. The generous support of the Vice Provost and Dean of Research, the Dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences, the Center for Teaching and Learning, the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, the Classics Department,  the History Department, the Stanford Humanities Center, the Europe Center at Stanford, and a New Directions Mellon Fellowship have all contributed to book's development process.
