CESTA Digital Humanities Graduate Student Professionalization (DH GSP) Program
The Digital Humanities Graduate Student Professionalization Program at CESTA provides graduate students with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in managing and contributing to Digital Humanities (DH) projects through a structured framework of learning, mentorship, and collaboration.
Spanning two quarters, Winter and Spring, the program enables students to enroll in the “Digital Humanities Graduate Student Professionalization” course and engage with faculty-led research initiatives while developing essential DH skills. During the Winter quarter, participants will build foundational knowledge by exploring campus resources, such as libraries and research units, while engaging with both student- and faculty-led projects to familiarize themselves with key DH methodologies, including text analysis, geospatial mapping, and multimodal data visualization. In the Spring quarter, students will enroll in a one-unit independent study course, dedicating three hours per week to engage closely with faculty-led research teams.
Program goals include:
- Building foundational skills in Digital Humanities methodologies such as text analysis, geospatial mapping, and multimodal data visualization.
- Enhancing familiarity with university resources and research infrastructure relevant to Digital Humanities work.
- Gaining hands-on experience in collaborative research and project management.
- Accessing mentorship and professional networking opportunities within CESTA’s academic and professional community.
- Engaging with faculty-led research projects while tailoring involvement to align with individual academic and career interests.
- Having opportunities to participate in conference presentations and to co-author academic papers.
By participating, graduate students will enhance their expertise in DH methodologies, strengthen professional networks, and gain valuable practical experience, while faculty members benefit from collaborating with motivated students to test innovative approaches and methodologies. The program launches in Winter 2025 and invites graduate students from relevant disciplines to apply and become part of this enriching professional development opportunity.
