Project Title
Looking-through-labor in Pompeian Wall Paintings

How is social diversity between women represented in wall paintings from Pompeii? What can the location and frequency of these paintings tell us about gendered artistic practices in Roman antiquity? To answer these questions, this project uses digital mapping and statistical tools to study Roman wall paintings at Pompeii depicting women from different social strata. It focuses on the labor women are represented as performing, for whom, and the locations of these paintings in their respective buildings and the city of Pompeii at large.
