Tom Mullaney is a Professor of Chinese History, and his research focuses on the Chinese language in the information age. He is Director of DHAsia, a program focused on East, South, Southeast, and Inner/Central Asia. His book The Chinese Typewriter: A History (2017) examines China’s development of a modern, nonalphabetic information infrastructure encompassing telegraphy, typewriting, word processing, and computing.
